Free training · Qlause 10.1 · Continuous Improvement Academy

Free Lean & continuous-improvement training your team will actually finish

Six narrated modules that take a team from “what even is Lean?” to running their own small improvements — roughly 139 minutes of video in total, free to watch and free to use in your own inductions, refreshers and team talks. Built on public-domain Lean practice, in plain language, with generic examples that work in any plant, workshop or warehouse.

Every module comes with a free module pack — a 10-question quiz with an answer key, a practical worksheet to use in your own area, a 10-minute team talk and an attendance register — so it counts as real, recorded training rather than a video someone watched once.

Named for ISO 9001 clause 10 — Improvement — because that is the clause this whole tier exists to satisfy.

Introduction to Lean & Continuous Improvement~35 min

Module 1 · Free · ~35 min

Introduction to Lean & Continuous Improvement

The foundation module. It explains what Lean and continuous improvement really mean, how to tell value-adding work from waste using three simple tests, the eight wastes in the word DOWNTIME, the five Lean principles and the Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle. You finish able to spot waste in your own area and run one small improvement.

The 8 Wastes (Muda)~19 min

Module 2 · Free · ~19 min

The 8 Wastes (Muda)

This module builds a shared vocabulary for spotting waste. It defines muda using one customer-based test, then works through all eight wastes with the DOWNTIME memory word - what each one is, what it looks like on a real floor, and how they cluster. You finish able to walk your own area, name what you see, and run a five-minute observation.

6S & Visual Management~22 min

Module 3 · Free · ~22 min

6S & Visual Management

6S extends the classic five-step workplace organisation method with Safety, and this module walks through all six steps in the order you run them: Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardise, Sustain and Safety. It then shows how visual management makes an organised area report its own status at a glance. You will leave able to audit your own area and name what to fix first.

CI Culture & Scientific Thinking (PDCA)~20 min

Module 4 · Free · ~20 min

CI Culture & Scientific Thinking (PDCA)

Tools alone do not sustain improvement - behaviour does. This module covers why culture sits above the tools in the Shingo model, what scientific thinking and PDCA look like in daily practice, and how the Improvement Kata and Coaching Kata turn improvement into a habit. You finish able to run one small PDCA experiment and coach it with the five questions.

Quality at the Source & Standard Work Basics~24 min

Module 5 · Free · ~24 min

Quality at the Source & Standard Work Basics

This module shows where quality is actually made - at the workstation, by the person doing the work - and how standard work keeps a good method alive after the shift that found it. It covers the three commitments, jidoka and andon, error proofing with poka-yoke, and what belongs in a standard. You will leave able to run your checks, stop at an abnormality and challenge a standard properly.

Safety, Ergonomics & Sustainability in CI~19 min

Module 6 · Free · ~19 min

Safety, Ergonomics & Sustainability in CI

The module that closes the foundation tier, by treating safety, ergonomics and resource waste as part of improvement rather than a competing priority. It covers the hierarchy of controls, near-miss reporting, the force-posture-repetition model of ergonomic risk, and the six green wastes. You will leave able to review any change against three questions: is it safer, is it easier on the person, is it cleaner?

How to run these as real training

  1. Watch the module together as a team, or send the link ahead of a shift meeting so people arrive having seen it.
  2. Download the module pack and run the 10-question quiz to check understanding.
  3. Do the worksheet in your own area — a waste walk, a 6S audit, a PDCA card. The learning lands when they apply it to the floor they actually work on.
  4. Record it on the attendance register — that is your competence evidence for audits (ISO 9001 clause 7.2).
  5. Reinforce it with the 10-minute team talk at the next shift meeting, and agree one action with an owner and a date.

What order to run them in

Run them in order. Module 1 gives everyone the same language, Module 2 teaches the team to see waste, and Module 3 is where most teams get their first visible win. Modules 4 and 5 are what make improvements stick after the enthusiasm fades, and Module 6 closes the loop by checking that nothing you improved quietly made the work less safe or heavier on the person doing it.

A comfortable pace is one module a week: watch it, do the worksheet, talk about it at the next huddle. Six weeks and a team has a shared vocabulary, a habit and a record.

What comes after the foundation tier

The foundation tier above is, and stays, free. Deeper practitioner material — standard work and job instruction, practical problem solving, value stream mapping, flow and pull, OEE and constraint thinking — is in production. Download any module pack and you'll be first to hear when it lands.
