You Are the Target — Why the Human Element Matters
The induction module. Why attackers aim at people rather than systems (a person was involved in about 62% of breaches in the Verizon 2026 DBIR), the four things every scam is after, the channels they use to reach you, the South African numbers — and the three habits the whole programme teaches: Pause. Verify. Report.
The scenario
Tuesday, 07:52 — an email from the managing director asks you to approve a payment before her 08:00 meeting.
The habit this module drills
Pause. Verify. Report.
After this module you can
- ✓Explain in one sentence why attackers go for people rather than systems.
- ✓Recognise the four things an attacker wants from you: your login, your click, your approval, your information.
- ✓Use the three habits — pause, verify, report — on anything that asks you to act.
- ✓Know where to report something at work, and that nobody is blamed for reporting.
What this module evidences: ISO/IEC 27001:2022 clause 7.3 (awareness) and Annex A control A.6.3 (information security awareness, education and training); the staff-awareness and security duties in data-protection law (for example GDPR Articles 32 and 39). The quiz result is recorded against your account, and passing it earns this module’s dated certificate.
