Leadership and commitment — general — what changed from 2015 to 2026

The 2015 list of top-management commitments carries over — accountability for QMS effectiveness, policy and objectives aligned to strategy, integration into business processes, resources, communication, results. The 2026 edition adds the most talked-about change of the revision: leadership must now demonstrably promote a quality culture and ethical behaviour. What was previously implied becomes an explicit commitment with a light evidence trail: culture and ethics are things top management does visibly, not values framed in reception.
ISO 9001:2015 said
Top management demonstrates leadership and commitment to the QMS through the familiar 2015 list.
ISO 9001:2026 says
The list now explicitly includes promoting a quality culture and ethical behaviour, with a light evidence trail expected.
