What the clause is really asking
Storage is where good product quietly goes bad. You need a stock management procedure with a specified rotation system that applies first-expired-first-out principles together with first-in-first-out. Slaughter operations (C0) must define post-slaughter time and temperature requirements for chilling or freezing. Where tankers are used, organisations dispatching final product in tankers need a documented, risk-based tanker cleaning plan covering cross-contamination sources, control measures and cleaning validation, plus a cleanliness check of the empty tanker before loading; organisations receiving raw material by tanker must have supplier agreements covering cleaning validation, prior-use restrictions and the relevant controls.
What auditors look for
Auditors pick a pallet and check both dates — receipt and expiry — against what left first. On tanker sites they ask for the cleaning validation, the pre-load inspection record and the supplier agreement's prior-load clause.

How to comply — recommendations
Make the warehouse system enforce FEFO — expiry-date picking, not just receipt order — and spot-check it. For tankers, write the prior-load restriction into the supplier agreement and refuse loads that cannot show it; validate cleaning once and verify at every reception.
